Newsletter Winter 2010
Note from the Heart
Continued from Autumn 2009 Newsletter….
The Life Cycle of a Quilter
For some strange reason, you never let go of the title of a Beginner. You may embellish the label to a Modest Beginner, a Well Seasoned Beginner, or a Confident Beginner, but rarely an Intermediate Quilter. You are so humbled by your lack of perfection that you realize the need to continue your education. You seek out new classes, books, quilting friends, guilds and the local quilt shop for help.
Matured and enlightened by your past adventures you become a regular at the quilt shop. You study the latest newsletter like a mystery novel looking for classes then begin changing dental appointments and rearranging family vacations when they interfere with these classes. You plan your next quilts with more zest than the family dinner. This was never intended to happen, but somehow you have filled shelves, closets, storage tubs, and sheds with wonderful fabric. Humbly, you admit you have a serious problem; your family needs to hire a maid, chef and a chauffeur so you can finish all these projects!
As the years pass it’s hard to remember just how many quilts you have made, given away, and how many quilts await their completion. Not because our minds are getting old, but because our minds are full of what we still want to make! The baby, graduation, wedding, retirement, and “just because I love you” quilts warm the lives of those closest to us. Yet we are still not content.
The “Accomplished Quilter” rarely proclaims their title. Like the soaring of an eagle, they follow their instincts, continuing to master new techniques. The cloth seems to submit to their request as their hands skillfully glide over their work. The fledgling under their watchful eye learns lessons of persistence, control and grace.
We gratefully acknowledge those quilters (like Helen) who have nurtured, inspired, and challenged us. Their lessons will forever resound in our hearts and echo in our quilts!

Tickled Pink Event Update: The Tickled Pink Event held on October 23 was a huge success. A highly energetic group of quilters gathered for an all-night adventure filled with laughter, prizes and quilting too. We successfully raised funds donated to the “Susan G. Komen for the Cure” and were able to double what we donated last year. A big thank you to all who participated in this event and helped us in our quest to find a cure for breasts cancer.
