Newsletter Summer 2010
Note from the Heart
Summer is here at last! You’ve got to love those longer days and warmer nights. It’s time for trips to the local farmer’s market, vacations to lands near and far, impromptu barbeques or just reading for pleasure. Maybe as a child you visited the public library during those lazy days of summer; that magical building that holds the secrets to countless questions. Oh, just to walk in and feel that reverent hush. Each book quietly calling out “Pick me, know my story, pick me!”. Colorful books line each shelf similar to a piano keys border on a quilt. No wonder I feel so comfortable there!
I love to savor books in the summer with a cool drink. My imagination works overtime creating just the right visual setting for these new found friends. Craving for more clues I reread sections to fill in those missing details. Like a fish to bait, I am hooked! A book too long soon becomes too short. What’s to become of these characters who’ve entertained me through the heat of the day? How will the rest of their lives turn out? So much to think about! As you set your plans for this summer break, include some special reading that engages your creativity. Might we suggest forming a reading group? Gather often to share insights, humor, and ironies. For those with less time to indulge, consider books with short stories that accompany quilt patterns, like The Farmer’s Wife Sampler, Hobo Quilts, or Civil War Love Letters Quilt. Exchange a block, share some fabric, challenge your minds.
Summertime provides a much needed change of pace for all of us, don’t let it slip away.
